Cupcake Boxes

These cupcake boxes are so versatile you could use them for a whole host of occasions, including Mothers’ Day, Halloween, baby showers, wedding favors, “thank yous” or just as an” I am thinking of you” gesture for a friend.


  • Two 12 x 12 Pieces of sturdy paper or card stock
  • Scor-Tape
  • A Scoring Board
  • Scissors
  • Embellishments for decorating the box
  • Optional: Clear Acetate Sheets
Instructions forĀ  the box:cupcake-box

Cut a piece of card stock to 9 1/2 inches square.

Using your Scoring board score at three inches in from the edge on all four sides of the card stock.

Cut the middle two score lines up to the horizontal line on both sides of the box.

Using theĀ  Scor-Tape ( this is a great product!) stick the box together


Instructions for the Lid:cupcake-lid

Cut a piece of card stock to 5 2/8 inches square.

Score 3/4 of and inch in from the edge on all four sides.

Repeat the same as you did for the box but this time cutting the corner two score lines on each side of the lid.

At this point you could decorate the box lid with embellishments or cut a shape out of the lid and replace it with clear acetate sheets to create a window.


Instructions for the insert:cupcake-insert

Cut a piece of card stock to 4 1/4 inches square.

Score half an inch in from the edge on all of the four sides.

Using a 2 1/2 inch circle template, trace a circle in the middle of the card.

Cut the circle out as this will be where the cupcake sits.

Cut the four corners as you did for the box lid, then glue in place.

    Fantastic cupcake boxes. They look so professional. You can make them more interesting by adding some sparkles or glitters. And may be creating a logo on a different piece of cardboard like “Happy Birthday!!” or something like that and then pasting on it will make it more attractive.

    How do you cut shapes into the lid? I’ve tried using a craft punch but either it’s too close to the edge or it’s not centered.

      You could draw a template and use an xacto knife to cut out a shape.

    I used my cricut machine to cut the shapes in the lid.
